The Kids Only Library proudly opened to the public on 1 Feb 1987.  Kids Only is a Joint Venture between the councils of Rocky Mountain and Flat Valley.  The idea for Kids Only was conceived by Marion Shells, a former primary school teacher at Rocky Mountain Primary School.  Marion approached the council after the closure the only bookstore servicing the local area. 

In 1995 the Quiet Reading Room was officially renamed the Marion Shells Reading Room.
